About the Filmmakers

Northland Films is the evolution of a small filmmaking partnership founded in 2001. Originally Uptown Media, the group evolved from commercial oriented videography to filmmaking in 2002 with their first feature-length narrative movie, Love. That first film earned the Taste of Minnesota “Audience Award” for Best Feature Film at the 2002 SMMAASH Film Festival. Soon after, the crew graduated to more ambitious projects with Generation Mason, a cinema vérité critique of Minneapolis’ post-college social scene. The film screened at numerous festivals, winning “Best American Film” at the 2006 Harlem International Film Festival. A five person collective, Northland Films has garnered high praise for their visual and storytelling styles, earning comparisons to the work of Kevin Smith and Richard Linklater. Pond Hockey is Northland Films fourth feature-length movie, and first documentary film.
